Taiwan Child Neurology Society (TCNS) formerly was a Division of Child Neurology at Neurological Society, R.O.C. Since 1985, the Division of Child Neurology has convened monthly meetings, and has held child neurology special lecture session in the annual meeting of Taiwan Neurological Society. In addition, from 1987 the board of child neurology specialty certification exam system was established and been administered to recognize qualified child neurologists. Simultaneously, the members of TCNS have actively involved in various international child neurology organizations and activities, such as holding the first meeting of Asian and Oceanian Association of Child Neurology (AOACN) in Taipei, and participating many international child neurology conferences.
It has been a trend that Child Neurology Society should be promoted to be an independent society in order to be functioning effectively and to gain a legal membership of the AOACN. Therefore, many child neurologists in Taiwan realized that the Taiwan Child Neurology Society (TCNS) must be founded as an independent society. As a result, the Taiwan Child Neurology Society was founded with an initial enrollment of 70 members on June 8, 1996. At the same time, the first board of directors and supervisors of TCNS were elected and the secretariat was formed, too. After the board passed the constitution of TCNS, the secretariat launched a series of propaganda and extensive contacts with its members and international child neurology societies. Since then, the TCNS news letter has been issued every four months; and the educational conference, training program and the board of child neurology specialty certification examination are held annually. Besides; the child neurological case discussion meetings are held monthly in northern, middle, and southern areas. On March 1, 1999, the TCNS Web Site has been designed to serve the ongoing academic, research, and practice based needs of its members. |
